What is Home Assistant integration?
The Flexopus Home Assistant Add-on is an interface that transfers occupancy information from Flexopus directly into your Home Assistant environment. Home Assistant is a widely used open-source building automation platform that supports over 2,500 devices and services – from smart thermostats and lighting systems to access control solutions.
The integration provides a so-called occupancy sensor in Home Assistant for every bookable resource in Flexopus – i.e., desks, meeting rooms or parking spaces. This sensor is updated at regular intervals with the current booking status from Flexopus and can then be used as a trigger for any automations.
What is the purpose of integration?
The integration connects your booking management system with the physical infrastructure of your office. As soon as a room or desk is booked or released in Flexopus, Home Assistant can automatically react to this status.
Typical use cases:
- Automatically turn the lighting on or off depending on whether a desk or room is booked.
- Adjust room temperature via smart thermostats – unused rooms are not heated or cooled unnecessarily.
- Activate access control: Smart locks only open during active booking periods.
- Set up occupancy displays, e.g. Colored LED lights that signal the status of desks or meeting rooms.
- Alarm systems can be automatically armed or disarmed depending on occupancy status.

How easy is the setup?
Setup requires a running Home Assistant instance. The add-on can be installed either via the Home Assistant Community Store (HACS) or manually. After installation, the integration will be added to the Home Assistant settings. There you enter your Flexopus domain and an API access token, which you can generate directly in the Flexopus dashboard.
Next, select the desired locations and confirm the configuration. The occupancy sensors for all bookable resources are then automatically created in Home Assistant.

Questions and answers
What data is transferred from Flexopus to Home Assistant?
Only occupancy information is transmitted – i.e., whether a resource is currently booked or not, as well as the expected occupancy status. Personal data such as names of bookers or booking details will not be shared with Home Assistant.
Will the integration also work if I run Home Assistant locally?
Yes. Home Assistant is a self-hosted platform and runs on your own hardware. The Flexopus integration communicates with the Flexopus servers via the Flexopus REST API to retrieve booking data. Your Home Assistant instance and all connected devices remain within your own infrastructure.
What happens if a booking is changed or cancelled?
The occupancy sensors are updated at regular intervals. Changes or cancellations in Flexopus are automatically transferred to Home Assistant during the next retrieval cycle. Automations built upon this react accordingly to the new status.
Do I need technical knowledge to set up the integration?
Since Home Assistant is a self-hosted platform, basic technical knowledge is helpful for setup. The Flexopus integration itself can be conveniently installed via the Home Assistant Community Store (HACS). Detailed instructions are available in the Flexopus Help Center.
For which types of resources are occupancy sensors available?
