What is Custom SMTP integration?
Flexopus automatically sends emails to users – for example, booking confirmations, reminders, or password resets. By default, Flexopus uses its own SMTP service providers: Rapidmail as the primary provider (based in Germany) and MailJet as the secondary provider (based in France) for increased reliability.
With the Custom SMTP integration, companies can instead use their own SMTP server for sending emails from Flexopus. It is possible to configure both a primary and a secondary SMTP provider – or to use your own server as the primary provider in combination with the Flexopus standard SMTP as a fallback.
What is the purpose of integration?
For many companies, it is important that outgoing emails are sent via their own infrastructure or a self-selected provider – be it for compliance reasons, due to internal IT guidelines or for a uniform sender image.
With your own SMTP server, your company retains full control over which channels emails are sent from Flexopus. This is particularly relevant if existing email infrastructures are to be used or if there are specific requirements for sender addresses and email routing.
How easy is the integration?
Setting up a custom SMTP server is an additional service that can be booked separately. After booking, you will need to provide the Flexopus DevOps team with your SMTP access data (host, port, username and password). The team sets up the connection, tests it, and confirms successful activation.

Is custom SMTP integration included in the standard license package?
No, setting up a custom SMTP is an additional service that can be booked separately via support@flexopus.com. It is not part of the standard license.
What SMTP access data is required?
The Flexopus team requires the following information for setup: the SMTP host (e.g. smtp.example.com), the port (e.g. 587), the username and password. For security reasons, we recommend sending your username and password in separate messages.
What security requirements apply to the SMTP server?
Flexopus only accepts SMTP servers with encrypted communication. Unencrypted connections are not supported to ensure the security of the transmitted data.
What happens if my SMTP server is unreachable?
You have the option to configure a secondary SMTP provider – either your own or the Flexopus standard SMTP (Rapidmail). This server automatically takes over if the primary server is unavailable, thus ensuring reliable email delivery.
Is the use of Custom SMTP GDPR-compliant?
Flexopus' own SMTP providers (Rapidmail and MailJet) are integrated in compliance with GDPR via appropriate data processing agreements (DPA). When using a company's own SMTP server, the responsibility for GDPR-compliant processing lies with the respective company.
